Here is a Headshot from a recent shoot for a candidate in the Local Elections. When it comes to headshots, particularly shots that will be used for a public campaign, subtle changes in expression  can make a huge difference to the image you portray.

It is very important to try and capture the full range of expressions from, Open Friendly and Happy through to Stern, Serious and Professional. At various stages in the campaign different shots will be needed to convey different messages. You also need to remember that the image used for the election posters is not necessarily the same picture that will be used for the Social Media campaign.
